I would love to tell you that paying off a massive amount of debt or hitting a big financial goal is easy, but it’s not. It is not an easy process to stay motivated, disciplined and develop new money habits that are long lasting. Even though it’s not an easy road to go down, it is going to be one of the most rewarding experiences of your life. This is going to be a tough and gratifying journey that you will not regret.

Three and a half years is a long time and to dedicate to a big plan, which is how long it took me. Along the way I paid off a massive amount of debt, built a large savings and paid cash for major purchases, like my wedding and renovations on my property. I have never felt so inspired and motivated around a personal goal. A goal that most people can't image accomplishing.

If you have started this journey welcome to a very small and unique club!

In order to charge forward on your path, you must stay inspired and believe that your dream is possible. Keeping that dream in the forefront will push you through some of the hardest parts of this journey and deter you from giving up. Having a goal, and most importantly a dream, is the key that keeps me and now my clients motivated. I work with people to help them define their dreams and keep them center. When they start to forget due to unforeseen hurdles, I put those dreams back in the middle of our conversations. Click here to learn more about my Budget Coaching Package.

What would be your money dream?

In addition, I encourage you to protect your dream. Not everyone needs to know your plans and dreams. Often when I start people on a plan, they want to tell others what they are doing. They are filled with excitement and want to share their new dream. I was just like them and wanted to yell it from the rooftop. Be careful, you might let some naysayers into your emotional space. I spent several hours trying to convince them that there is another way to handle money and to join me on this journey. Afterwards, I was left drained and doubting myself. I quickly stopped talking and started doing. Literally, none of those people went down this path with me. I am happy to say now my conversations with those people are very different. During your journey, your emotional energy is critical to accomplishing your goals. Spend your time refining your plan and taking steps, instead of convincing people.

Loren- Socializing while on a money mission can be one of the biggest triggers that throw us off our plan. We often feel obligated to say yes when loved ones ask us to join them. I suggest:

1) Choosing a money goal that you can focus on

2) Then getting really good at saying no. Check out my blog "Saying 'No' Will Solve Your Money Problems."

3) Take the lead when planning the events. That way you can control how much it is going to cost.

Remember, you don't owe anyone an explanation if you can not make it to their event.

Thanks for the comment!

Yes, I learned this on my health journey. Now I have to learn how to stop faking it during social events. How do you handle socializing and money?
